# Connecting Board to Host

## Serial console

The debug UART is the most reliable way in, and the only one that shows the bootloader and early kernel messages.

|              |        |
| ------------ | ------ |
| Baud rate    | 921600 |
| Format       | 8N1    |
| Flow control | None   |

On the host:

```
sudo picocom -b 921600 /dev/ttyUSB0
```

or

```
sudo minicom -D /dev/ttyUSB0 -b 921600
```

{% hint style="info" %}
The board exposes several USB serial devices once booted: the debug console, the CH340C bridge for the DB9 port, and three from the LTE module. To tell them apart:

```
for p in /dev/ttyUSB*; do
    echo "$p -> $(udevadm info -q property -n $p | grep ID_MODEL=)"
done
```

{% endhint %}

## Login

Default login is `root` with no password.

## Network

### Ethernet

The board requests an address by DHCP on boot.

```
ip addr show eth0
```

To set a static address:

```
nmcli con add type ethernet ifname eth0 con-name static \
    ip4 192.168.1.100/24 gw4 192.168.1.1
nmcli con up static
```

{% hint style="warning" %}
The Ethernet output is switched between the RJ45 and the M12 connector by a mechanical switch (SW2200) on the board. If the switch is in the wrong position the port is completely dead with no link and no LEDs. This is not visible to software.
{% endhint %}

### SSH

`rity-demo-image` runs an SSH server by default.

```
ssh root@<board-ip>
```

### Finding the board

```
avahi-browse -art | grep -i genio
```

or check the DHCP server's lease table.

## ADB

```
adb devices
adb shell
```

ADB runs over the USB Type-C port. If the device does not appear, check that the udev rules from [Genio-tools Setup](/yocto-developer-guide/getting-started/iot-800n-g420/genio-tools-setup.md) are installed.

## Transferring files

```
scp <file> root@<board-ip>:/tmp/
```

or over ADB:

```
adb push <file> /tmp/
adb pull /tmp/<file> .
```
